has given its baby SUV
, the X1
, an overhaul for 2019, and will be introducing a plug-in hybrid
model from 2020.
The latest X1 was originally launched in 2015 but this facelift updates the look to be more in-line with the latest BMW design, which means a larger grille at the front and some new headlights, which are nice bright LEDs across the range. There are integral foglamps in the bumper, and larger air intakes, too. On higher-end models, there’s a fancy new driver’s-side mirror that projects an LED X1 image onto the ground when the car is unlocked. It’s not just to look cool, though; it’s also to show up any puddles near the door as you get in.
At the back, there are new rear lights and new wider exhaust pipes. BMW has added three new paint colours and four new wheel designs, too. Inside, there’s an updated navigation system and the latest version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system. Options include a full-colour head-up display.
